Athenas was the main city of ancient Greece during the first millennium BC. The culmination of its long and fascinating history came in the 5th century BC, under the rule of Pericles (called the century of Pericles), when its values and its civilization spread beyond the geographical limits of the city and became universal. Political thought, theater, arts, philosophy, science, architecture and so many other aspects of thought, reached their epic apogee in a temporal coincidence, with an intellectual plenitude unique in the history of mankind.
