Bird Flight I

Description of the ways in which birds fly. Practiced by large birds, both terrestrial and marine, sailing flight takes advantage of air currents to save energy. The formation flight saves energy when flying in group. There are two patterns on formation flight: L and V. Using these patterns, birds take advantage of the turbulence generated by the bird that precedes another in the formation, flying so with less air resistance. This infographic from the Ábaco collection is part of The Art of Flying series, which also includes those originally titled: Why Do Birds Fly, Adapted Arms, The Secret of Success: Feathers, The Tail as a Rudder and So is Flapping Flight.
