The Gods on Olympus
In Ancient Greece, religion played a very important role, despite this concept was not known as such. The greeks were polytheists, this is, they worshiped more than one divinity. There was more than one god and each one was associated with different elements, actions, powers, interventions, myths, rituals ... etc. The twelve Olympian gods were so named because it was believed that they lived like the ancient Greek chieftains, in a palace located on top of Mount Olympus, which is in fact the highest mountain in Greece.
