Earthquakes are measured in terms of strength, duration, and location. When its intensity is measured, its capacity for destruction is being measured; when talking about its magnitude, it refers to the energy it has released. To measure the intensity of earthquakes, there are several scientific instruments and comparative scales. While the seismograph measures all parameters, various scales are used to interpret the data. The best known scales are : the modified Mercalli scale and the Richter scale. However, there are other ways to measure their catastrophic effects.
