Tsunamis

Large earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, the impact of a meteorite or a nuclear detonation can generate tsunamis, gigantic waves, up to 30 m high, that crash against the shores and devastate everything in their path. Earthquakes are usually the most frequent cause of tsunamis. They displace a huge amount of water to the surface; waves are formed that as they advance, gain speed and height, until hitting the mainland. This infographic from the Ábaco collection corresponds to the Catastrophes series, to which the following original titles also belong: Deep Tear, Elastic Waves, Risk Areas and Measure an Earthquake.
