On August 23, year 47 A.C. mount Vesuvius entered into a sudden and violent eruption after 800 years of inactivity, destroying the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The infographic describes the sequence of the eruption and the emission of pyroclastic elements, which, for two days, produced the greatest natural tragedy of antiquity. Since then, Vesuvius had a dozen major eruptions, the worst one in 1631. This infographic from the Ábaco collection is integrated into the Volcanoes series, which includes the original titles: The Earth's Crust, Anatomy, Eruption and Krakatoa.
