The Immortals

The army of the Persian Empire, the first in history to cover territories on three different continents, had an elite corps: the Immortals, who fought in the medical wars and against Alexander the Great. Its members, selected from among the Medes and Persians, made up a unit of 10,000 men, whose number never decreased despite the casualties in combat. From that circumstance, their name was derived. The Danish historical publication Illustreret Videnskab Historie used several elements of the infographic The Immortals: Persian Soldiers to produce the central poster of its section Fra top til tå (From head to toe), dedicated to soldiers of all times and places.
