In 1962, the United States Army introduced a new war machine: the Chinook CH-47 twin-rotor helicopter, manufactured by Boeing, one of the giants of the North American naval air industry. Specially designed for the transport of troops and of heavy material, it entered service in the Vietnam conflict.
