The vertebral column or spine is the flexible axis that provides firmness to the body. It is made up of a series of bones, organized in a row, called vertebrae; the spinal cord goes through the channel that is formed inside vertebrae. Due to its location, the vertebrae are divided into four groups: 7 cervical vertebrae which support the skull; below are 12 thoracic vertebrae, from which the ribs start; followed by 5 lumbar vertebrae, which support the weight of the body, and finally there are the sacrum and the coccyx, made up of 5 vertebrae and 4 fused vertebrae respectively. Hands include 27 bones, and the feet, 26. This infographic from the Ábaco collection is integrated into the Human Body series, which includes also the original titles: Skeleton, Woven Bone, Skull and Face and Joints.
